I copied this from the public Saftey Divers forum from Frank Eckard "We use PWC thru a loaner program. They are free and get replaced every year by local dealer. We had to apply for this program and were approved. Several manufacturers offer this to Search and Rescue teams. The two PWC we get are useful for running quick searches along lakes for stranded boaters or bodies that might have surfaced in the night on an operation where we have not located the victim in normal operations.

We transport people out to water operations with them as they are quick and efficient.

These craft are used for doing perimeter patrol to keep others out of search area on large lakes where we sometimes attract lots of boaters wanting to see what is going on. We do have a sonar system and these boats are ideal for doing quick tasks that a jon boat with a 15 hp motor on will not be able to do efficiently.

We do not use helmets. All operators must attend a class on PWC operation and have a boat safety card from attending a class. No one can operate a boat with out this training.

I highly recommend units look for this in their area thru local  PWC dealer. Or you might want to check web site of manufacturer and see if it is there. We use Kawasaki models. I think SeaDoo also has a program too.

I thought it worthwile to repost here.
